Johnny Rivers (born John Henry Ramistella, 7 November 1942, in New York) is an American rock and roll singer, songwriter, guitarist, and record producer. He was versatile enough to do folk songs, blues, covers of old-time rock 'n' roll songs, and some original material, all of them in his own unique style. Rivers's greatest success came in the mid and late 1960s with a string of hit songs (including "Seventh Son," "Poor Side of Town" and "Secret Agent Man"), but he has continued to record and perform to the present.
Singles Chart positions are from the Billboard Hot 100: "Memphis" #2 (1964) "Maybellene" #12 (1964) "Mountain of Love" #9 (1964) "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" (1964) "Midnight Special" #20 (1965) "Cupid" #76 (1965) "Seventh Son" #7 (1965) "Where Have All The Flowers Gone" #26 (1965) "Under Your Spe

one of a small number of performers such as Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Pink Floyd (from 1975's Wish You Were Here onward), Queen, Genesis (though under the members' individual names and/or the pseudonym Gelring Limited) and Neil Diamond who have their name as the copyright owner on their recordings. (
Most records have the recording company as the named owner of the recording.)

What a fantastic video!! This song has been a favorite of mine for many years. The whole band is really into the music. Is that correct that the piano man is johnny droll? Not familiar with him, but he sure plays the hell out of that piano.

Actually I think they were "drooling" at "Johnny" haha. Yeah, I made the same mistake. Actually I think that's Huey "piano" Smith on the ivories. Had too look it up.

Actually they are miming to the record or whoever put this video up laid in the record. Huey Piano Smith is black and did the original version of the song. The pianist on this record is the amazing Larry Knechtel who also played piano on "Bridge Over Trouble Water," bass on "Mr. Tambourine Man" and guitar on "Guitar Man" by Bread. He was an incredible session player in the 60's and 70's and played on a ton of hit records.

This is from 1973 Johnny Rivers and his LA Boogie Band..They toured Europe, this was taped in Germany..The piano player is Michael Melvoin, Jim Horn and Chuck Findley on horns, the infamous Jim Gordon on drums, Jack Conrad on bass,Dean Parks and Herb Pedersen. Their pictures are on the back cover of JR's "Last Boogie in Paris" cd, so I am identifying them with that. Larry Knechtel played on several of JR's songs, but that's not him here.

This Argentina connection intrigues me. My wife was from Mendoza, and we lived over there for about 3 years. Si, hablo Espanol. Roughly. I know quite a few swear words! So how come the Argentinian connection with this song? My heart is breaking with the condition, yet again, of that wonderful country and it's lovely people.
