I think he is a great actor, and I am not obsessed with his looks. What I look at in a great actor is somebody who doesn ´t get stuck in a catogory but does different things, keep challening him/herself. Johnny Depp does that. That would be a wonderful arguement if he was actually good looking. He is a normal looking guy behind the make up and costumes. I believe he is a great actor, most people that criticize him tend to forget he was in Edward Scissor hands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Ed Wood. All very different roles. He is a versatile actor, probably the most today. To overlook this is be a bit stubborn.

I just don't see why everyone thinks he is so amazing there are backing actors with better acting skills. On screen he always seems drunk and yes he is versatile but he's either acting badly or being a drunk (where he is not supposed to be) That is why he fitted the part in pirates of the carribean and people since then have been blinded, backing every peformance with "He was great in pirates of the carribean." Get a new line.

Well yes as the comment before me says, he was brilliant in Pirates in the Caribean, the acting in those films you can't really see any other doing, but that doesnt mean he's great in everything. If you atch sweeney Todd on stage, Sweeney has always got a deep voice,he doesnt.If you listen during the film he's actually using more or less the same voice as Jack,I'm not saying he's bad in this, I'm just saying that people musn't say he is just couse who he is and what he achieved n Pirates ofthe C

Well you can't base your opinion just on the voice. There are many differences in depp's Sweeney and George Hearn's Sweeney. I personally like that because #1 I'de rather not see the same performance time and again. #2 I don't think Sondheim, when he wrote this, had any intentions for Sweeney's tone of voice. Bottome line for me is that I love Depp's creativity. Completely different Wonka, Completely different than the typical pirate, Completely different Sweeney.I agree girls only see a face.
