I think the strings may be a lil bit elaborate, but this is great! I love how pretty much everyone has their version of this song, but it never loses its brilliance or becomes a meaningless 'standard'

I agree with you about the best version being Jeff's...I like Damien Rice too. People are just romanticized by the violins in this piece. If you block all that out at the beginning, it's almost like you are at a Karaoke bar. LOL!

This is nothing compared to the original version by Cohen. This song has been massacred for too many thousand times, even to meaningless teenage tv-shows. The original has the hope and the soul, which Leonard composed.

Why do people think this is a song about hope? This song is about despair and loss. I don't think a melodic approach is appropriate at all. Cohen has just the right dark and gravelly voice for the song - even when he half speaks it.

I think this is a good interpretation but I prefer Jeff Buclkey's one. I don't think it's the melodic approach but the tremolo of Buckley and his voice is better..
