By request. Song is "It's Been A Long, Long Time" by Harry James and his Orchesta with Kitty Kallen on vocals from 1945. Photos include publicity shots from Tonight And Every Night (1945), Gilda (1946), The Lady From Shanghai (1947), Down To Earth (1947), and Affair in Trinidad (1952). Film clips are from You'll Never Get Rich (1941), Affair in Trinidad, and of course, the unforgettable, sizzling red-hot number "Put The Blame On Mame" from Gilda (courtesy of Dr Macro, thank you!!!). Photographers include Robert Coburn and George Hurrell. Rita certainly is a looker, but Harry's orchestration puts even the image of Miss Hayworth in the shade. The band is the star here, right up front virtually throughout, pushing vocalist Miss Kallen into a supporting role. Alive, and breathing deep in the orchestra is love spiritual and physical, joined and complete. The body and soul of life.

WOW! Thanks for this. James of course without a flaw and I've been a fan of his since forever. As for Hayworth .... what class and beauty. And how very sad too. She had a right to a better life but for abusive husband and finally Alzheimer's. This is the way I want to remember her and I thank
you for that. You must work at this stuff pretty hard and it shows there's more then sweat here. There's some love as well.

I've been listening to music from the Big Band/World War II era since I was about 15 years old (1968). I love many of them, but in my opinion, this is the quintessential recording from that time. It captures it all: the magnificent big band sound of the Harry James orchestra, Kitty Kallen's wonderful singing and the simple, but incredible lyrics that say what must have been in the heart and soul of every woman in the U.S.A. when their man returned from the war. Introduce this to your friends!

Yes, I feel the same way about it! I too listened to this music since I was very, very young since we had "Music Sundays" at home and every other week my dad would play his collections of big band, jazz, and other 78s and reel-to-reel tapes of concerts he'd collected from the radio.
