I agree with the last 2 comments. The movie makes it seem like too much of a love story. It's a really good movie, I still adore it,but for those of you that haven't read the book you have to remember that Lo was much younger than this, more fragile, and not as willing. She was at the age where she was not emotionally mature enough for sex. The movie made it seem like she was always having a blast, like maybe an older girl (I) would.lol.

That shot of Humbert running through the chicken field makes me wonder about something: 'Chicken' was once a common code-word known to the authorities and sex offenders for children or other underage victims. I don't know if that term existed in the late forties, or if that shot was intended as symbolic imagery, Humbert surrounded by chickens (that classroom shot definitely has that sort of subtext). Seems reasonable to me.
