"they could never have known". not true, I live in Louisiana. we knew it was coming for years, New Orleans is a bowl. 6ft below sea level, water running through it everywhere in canals, Mississippi river next to it, Hurricanes going by multiple times a year. It was doomed to happen. we knew that some day a storm would flood it. I live on higher ground though in Louisiana, it never floods here.

This song was actually for the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. Some major levees were breached and one or two were destroyed to keep the flood waters from going into the city. Much of Saint Bernard and Plaquemines Parish were destroyed by flooding.
