Refers to the Chinese Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 -- this was famous for the video of that student standing fast in front of a column of Chinese Red Army Main battle tanks. Thousands were killed, including, Waters tells us, a young girl, a student of philosophy, in a yellow dress. I am proud of them. Lovely, lovely song.

The video itself is fantastic, These heroes should not be forgotten. Since china may be the major military and political power in the next century, Any push towards transparency and accountability in governance is huge! For the song itself though, lyrically it lost focus in the last half, dragged down by a misguided focus on making a concept album, perhaps if there had been a more democratic process in writing the lyrics it would have been a great song instead of just a good song :)
