Beautiful Gene who lived such a tragic life. At lest she lives in her movies and sometimes has a happy ending.
Only Gene could ... ( 7 months ago by CatalinayClaudeJ)
Only Gene could have played LAURA. Lee Bouvier Radziwill tried in during the Camolot years, on television, but was not as breathtaking as Gene, nor as Jackie for that matter.

I saw RICHARD WIDMARK in person at the DRYDEN THEATER (Eastman House) in Rochester, N.Y. 3 years ago. Someone from the audience asked him who was his favorite Actress that he worked with.......and he said GENE TIERNEY. He made "NIGHT AND THE CITY" with her.

DARRYL HICKMAN was not in the movie "LAURA" (1944). You are probably thinking of "LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN" when GENE TIERNEY ( who played LAURA ) is responsible for the drowning of DARRYL HICKMAN'S character in the movie "LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN" starring GENE TIERNEY and CORNEL WILDE.
Yes, I know that. ... ( 6 months ago by shanghaibenny2)
Yes, I know that. But Darryl Hickman's presence in a raunchy, souped-up version of Laura (Sharkey's Machine) could hardly have been a coincidence. I suspect having him die on a lake, as in Leave Her To Heaven, was a link that served as a tribute to Gene Tierney. If you ever see Sharkey's Machine, it takes a while to establish the connection between the two movies, but it becomes undeniable after the murder of Dominoe's friend.

You did a beautiful job on this. I absolutely love her. I wish she could of led a happier life. I love her movies. I think she was just a classy lady. Thanks so much for sharing this with us.

shanghaibenny2,I often think I'm way in the wrong time period, not just because I'm an appreciator of Gene, but also, for ex. Frank Sinatra, whom I still admire so, just doesn't seem dead to me. These people we admire, still, seem to live on. I wish I could find a group of appreciators like you, form a casual association and place to meet and exchange philosophies, film star stuff. Most folks I see don't get into this older art and they bore me into feeling out of place. Just a left out guy, gene
You were not born ... ( 5 months ago by shanghaibenny2)
You were not born in the wrong time; just not locked into it. The timelessness of this art is tribute to the greatness of the artists. I've read that filmmaking was the only dynamic art of the 20th century. The advanced technology of art coincides with the discovery of new, more powerful substances by science. Talent like that of Tierney and Sinatra has an incredibly long half-life. Perhaps we should create a Periodic Table of Elements for celebrities. Praise for YouTube.

MickyBlue, you are completely right, except for the 'subjective' clause. She's another reason I like fedora hats, wide ties and double action revolvers.

An interesting aside, they initially wanted Heddy Lamar to play Laura but she turned it down. When asked why? she said they sent me a copy of the script and not the theme.

waratah08: Interesting the way things work out. Martin Scorcese commented that some films are fortunate to have a score that graces it. Was it the usual practice to have the score composed before the film was shot?

Dont' you think we could draw more than a few parallels between Gene Tierney and Frances Farmer? Look at Tierney's eyes, theres something deeply sad about her, but in my opinion never nefore or after has been a more beautiful actress on the screen

Yes, and they were both once regarded among Hollywood's five most poignant beauties; along with Louise Brooks, Ilona Massey and Joan Collins.
