I'd rather use a " ... ( 7 months ago by SJSR45)
I'd rather use a "genius politically correct name" than a distorted propagandist's term because it accurately reflects reality. Also, as evidenced by recent demonstrations at Iranian universities, Ahmadinejad is not as popular as he'd like to be and its entirely possible he could be voted out for being such a huge shit talker. Also he doesn't have real power in Iran (the mullahs do) so I don't get why everyone's suddenly afraid of him because he likes to talk shit
ahmadinejad wanting ... ( 7 months ago by SJSR45)
ahmadinejad wanting to "wipe the Zionist state off the face of the map" is just another example of a politician using power politics and demagoguery to try and drum up popular support. Its no different from Bush and co trying to stir up the fear mongering machine. ahmadinejad can be dealt with in a peaceful diplomatic manner. bush just doesnt want to do that because he's too caught up with a potential military interdiction in Iran
no, this is about ... ( 7 months ago by SJSR45)
no, this is about people wanting to kick unwelcome foreigners out of their land. If you believe in national sovereignty then you must respect their right to kick us out because that is THEIR LAND. Now if you don't believe in national sovereignty then why not surrender the American Southwest to Mexico? It is in essence the same problem and if you can't see that then you have a blindingly arrogant double standard
"Some" women ... ( 7 months ago by Omithy)
"Some" women wanting the Burka does not constitute the majority of women wanting it. Since they cannot liberate themselves, someone else has to. But most of the world usually could care less and prefers to stay neutral in the storm of death, so it falls upon the US to do the dirty job.
....AND they need ... ( 7 months ago by Omithy)
....AND they need the USA to help those who wish for freedom and liberty achieve their goals, because they can't do it on their own under the repressive regimes they live. All assuming there are people like that in the Islamic world.
In that case, then ... ( 7 months ago by Omithy)
In that case, then you lose your liberty, because if you can't think straight, you can't have liberty. Liberty does not allow stupidity, it allows only progress.
You can't be stupid and free.
The Pakistani army ... ( 7 months ago by Omithy)
The Pakistani army is actually the most secular aspect of Pakistani society, which is why it is also the only institution that is stable within Pakistan. And compared to the jihadists, Musharraf may in fact be described as an Atheist.
The point is, someone has to rule the Islamic world. And I'd rather have someone rule it that's on my side.
Dhimmitude, that's ... ( 7 months ago by Omithy)
Dhimmitude, that's what you just described. A Jew living under an Arab caliphate would be a dhimmi, or a second class citizen in modern terms. Under my standards, I hardly consider that "they had it good."
This is why no person, even a Muslim, has it good under Sharia Law. It is unnatural and backwards. If you disagree, try it out for yourself.
Inventing Algebra ... ( 7 months ago by Omithy)
Inventing Algebra and sailing around Africa was then, and poverty and death is now. Times change, my friend, but Islam and its way of life have not for some reason. What was great then is in shambles today.
Something in Islam does not allow it to integrate into the 21st century, which all other religions have already done.
Mossadeq wasn't ... ( 7 months ago by Omithy)
Mossadeq wasn't that moderate at all. If anything, his party was more Soviet oriented. His policies were too nationalist and radical. He did not want to compromise with the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company and got ousted.
He wanted to be a man that he was not. He played a card he never had to try to show off his balls, which he ultimately lost.
I think the people ... ( 7 months ago by Omithy)
I think the people who supported the Revolution in the late 1970's are the ones who have regrets, not us. They reap what they sow. They're stuck with a corrupt and bankrupt government, not us.
Blowbacks are bound to happen, but they are gonna hurt the Iranians more.
Sure it means it's ... ( 7 months ago by Omithy)
Sure it means it's worse, because Islam is the only religion that's going throgh this phase or change in the 21st century, where it lashes out with modern weaponry, and not primitive ones back in the day. From the three Abrahamic religions, it is by far the worst when it comes to radicalism and orthodoxy. There is no doubt about it.
When Christianity was radical, it wasn't during a time where it could wipe out masses easily, because the ability to do was not there.
Compare the ... ( 7 months ago by Omithy)
Compare the bombardment of clinics to the horrific events caused by Islamic radicals. You will see that there is no comparison because how many clinics have been bombed recently??? More than 20?
Please stop blaming western imperialism for the troubles that Islam has. Islam far predates imperialism and America. Islam had these problems before, and it has no one to blame but itself.
Well I wouldn't ... ( 7 months ago by Omithy)
Well I wouldn't negotiate with the Palestinians either. They have no legit gov. and no legit cause at all. How do you negotiate with Hamas, a group whose charter calls for the end of the State of Israel?
You do not negotiate with those people, you either stay away from them, or, if they give you trouble, get rid of them.
National ... ( 7 months ago by Omithy)
National sovereignty only exists if you have the means to defend that principle in reality. Not many states have that ability, and therefore they lose it.
Might makes right.
A Jew is a Jew. An ... ( 7 months ago by Omithy)
A Jew is a Jew. An Arab is an Arab. A terrorist is a terrorist.
See, the problem with the West nowadays is that it has forgotten the idea of "the enemy". Some think that these are just poor folks trying to defend their homeland. They are in fact a lot more than that. They are people who wish to exterminate my way of life. But the West has become too sluggish
and too mild to see the reality before its eyes. It's easier to water down the threat and pretend we're the problem.
what an ... ( 7 months ago by SJSR45)
what an unbelievably ignorant comment. might makes right? really? if everyone really believed that bullshit then man never would have never slogged his way out of the dark ages, much less come up with the idea of a representative democracy
I'm getting tired ... ( 7 months ago by SJSR45)
I'm getting tired of this ridiculous back-and-forth I keep bringing up concepts and events that you yourself could look up and learn about and you refuse to address it. You try to combat me with are vague open-ended statements and generalizations that reflect nothing more than your bigotry and limited understanding of the Middle East and the world. spend more time understanding and less time embracing blind hate
islam did not have ... ( 7 months ago by SJSR45)
islam did not have these problems before or are you not paying attention to what I'm saying? does your understanding of history not stretch back beyond 100 years in scope? these people have LOOONG memories- 80 years later they're still bitching about the Balfour Declaration. READ. LEARN. the world is far more complex than pointing at the shock and awe- its all about cause and effect.
Oh I'm not saying ... ( 7 months ago by Omithy)
Oh I'm not saying we should leave from anywhere. Of course we should stay. Leaving the region hoping it will turn into a peaceful fest is the mistake the Europeans made when they closed their imperial chapter of their history.
You bring up events ... ( 7 months ago by Omithy)
You bring up events in the way you see them. I, however, don't see them the way you do.
I am willing to take the chance and favor and bet on the side of the most advanced and liberal civilization ever to exist on this planet. I blame the problems on Islam and the Middle East, because it's they who got themselves in the mess that they are in.
It might be an ... ( 7 months ago by Omithy)
It might be an ignorant statement, but more importantly, it's a REALISTIC statement. If you don't got the military power to back up your national sovereignty, then you don't have it. Then it's just words on a piece of paper.
I'm not saying this is how it should be. I'm saying this is how it is.
If the cost of ... ( 6 months ago by jclayton59466)
If the cost of living is constantly going up then you can never win by redistributing last years' wealth.
Good views, ... ( 1 month ago by stroopdd)
Good views, everyone is entitled to an opinion. But.. what do you think would really happen if ALL of us came home? Japan V China, NKorea V SKorea and possibly others? Since ive joined, all i wanted to do is "Come Home" and you say that if we dont, i wont have one to come home to? any American would lay down thier lives for her. Even Grandma.. am i right?
