This video is very ... ( 3 weeks ago by shaneestep24)
This video is very disappointing. I would think that google would come up with something better. It seams like this is a lot of hasle for something so simple. If it takes this much code for something minuscule as this, how hard would it be to connect to a relational database. That is what we would use in the real world. Not just a very simple text box to label web site. If you are to post in the future please send something the business world can use, not just the weekend programmer can use.

Also please do not use an apple computer to design stupid apps. Nobody in their right mind would use a MAC, unless, they were a graphics nut. macs just aren't practical for the overpriced hard where. Really who would buy one? Go with Linux man.

This guy is a machine. He codes so fast and he never makes any keyboard mistakes??? A REAL MACHINE, IT'S LIKE HE CAN CODE WITH HIS MIND RAY.

I disagree. I think this video did what it was supposed to do: introduce the developer to the Google App Engine and how it can be used. Then the developer can read through the documentation and explore a bit more. A similar app in PHP would take just about the same amount of code. Consider you have to connect to the database, test to make sure the query went through, and then display the shouts. I think this was a fantastic video, and I'll definitely be checking out Google App Engine soon.

That's nothing special, it just means he's not the average 10-16 year old today who grew up on the internet and thinks "lol" is a real word and can't type properly and hangs out at chan boards and other stupid shit.

Dued, what spaceman speak are you talking? I'm trying to develop the world's most simple application helloworld, and I haven't a clue what you are talking about?!!?
First of all, I'm on a PC, so what the heck is a "terminal"? You go to the terminal guy, but I can't follow you since I have no idea what that is. What is all that goofy script above hello world? User/bin/env?? What?? What IS that? Google, how about creating something where an ordinary HUMAN
OID can learn.
The video isn't for ... ( 2 weeks ago by stomer)
The video isn't for "ordinary humanoids", it's aimed at programmers. Most programmers will already be familiar with the "terminal" and what "/usr/bin/env" means.

This video was perfect for me. I'm a beginning computer science student and this was a great little project. I think App Engine is more attractive than Amazon's Web Services because of its focus on Python and its free!!
Reading your post ... ( 1 week ago by Mamsecks)
Reading your post makes me believe you're that "weekend programmer" you talk about. It's obvious you're not just going to do that for a website, but it's all the packages GAE has that makes it useful for big, well organized projects. Try using frameworks like Zend (for PHP) and you will see it all works like this. You don't create a web application with a click unless you use a CMS.

Ever programmed? This is not for a beginner that has never programmed. Read some stuff first.
Idiots. Ruby on ... ( 3 days ago by htbeast)
Idiots. Ruby on Rails isn't as language, it's a framework. I doubt you can even code outside of your little container. If you take web frameworks out of the picture, Python is FAR more simple than Ruby...if you find coding Python difficult, then I don't think you should be calling anyone else a noob.
People like you are ... ( 3 days ago by htbeast)
People like you are the reason proffesional programmers hate Ruby fanatics, you 'code' up a generic looking stupid website nobody sees, using some uber high level framework and api that even my youngest son learned in a week, and then you have the presumption to go around calling experienced programmers who use other languages 'noob'.
Ruby is a language, ... ( 3 days ago by minitah)
Ruby is a language, Ruby on Rails is the web framework. Listen nothing wrong with Python, Ruby just does the job for me. I use java too, but not all projects require java. Productivity is what counts, whats the point of using a low level api and have no productivity. You don't sound like a professional programmer.
so why should i ... ( 3 days ago by minitah)
so why should i take web frameworks out of the picture, when am building a web applications. dosent matter how simple you think python is as a language, most languages are simple too if you take frameworks out of the picture. But before you can do anything useful besides scripting, you still need a framework.
i agree. ( 3 days ago by minitah)
i agree.
