This video was originally posted very shortly after the Z06 actually hit the market. Allegedly, the Z06 blew up its motor on the second run (threw a rod, if I recall). Sad to see a Z06 die as I own one myself, but it's what you get for putting nitrous on a brand new car then going out and street racing.
I also think you're under-estimating the LS1. Bolt-on LS1 with a cam and no nitrous can do over 500 at the wheels after a good tune.

hmm, well after the aftermarket cams and the tune(witch im giving 50 hp worth). with no nos, wat bolt ons would give an ss an extra 150+ horses without s/c or turbos? thats more than 50% gain in HP besides cold air int.

Yeah, those supercharged Ford's haul some ass. Buddy of mine has a KB 04 Cobra that I can't keep up with in my C6 Z06. I don't really need any more power though (right).
Anyway, remember the Intimidator package for the SS? Changed the intake box and catback exhaust - rated at 381hp, and I'd venture a guess it'd make closer to 400 on an engine dyno. With a nasty enough cam I could see a bolt-on SS sticking with a lightly modded Z06.

2006. Yeah, the ZR-1's going to be a monster (Italy and Germany had better pull out all the stops if they want to fight that thing), but the Z06 was pushing my price range as it was. Plus, as neat as the LS9 is (on a technical level), there's just something about the noise of that seven liter powerplant that just warms my heart (and those of my neighbors too, but I'm not sure if the feelings are quite the same).
