Yes. It does. ...( 1 month ago by mytruepower2)
Yes. It does. Think about it. Supposing that the universe did start at one central point, and expanded from there. Even if it expanded at the speed of light (which matter can't do) it could only reach a maximum size of 27.4 billion light years across in 13.7 billion years. In order to reach 93 billion light years across from a single point, the universe would need to be AT LEAST 46.5 billion years old, and it's probably much older since matter CAN'T travel at light speed.

True. There is no guarantee that matter can't travel faster than light, but much of modern physics hinges on that theory. If we were to discover otherwise, it would be a monumental discovery.
Matter cannot ...( 1 month ago by PiccoloNamek)
Matter cannot travel faster than the speed of light within its own frame of reference, but universe itself can expand faster than the speed of light. And since the universe is expanding faster than the speed of light, faraway objects can be receding from us at or faster than c while remaining stationary within their own reference frame. All current observations show that the observable universe is at least 93 billion light years across. The whole universe may be larger or even smaller than this.

Well, it still sounds a little fishy to me, but thank you for explaining it so well.

Sometimes i'm at my parents house, smoking a spliff in a pitch black clear night on the hill behind their house,i imagine myself travelling earth to infinity just like this movie..more people should be interested in space and things other than cars ,sports and cash..not that i don't enjoy the previous 3 i mentioned, but there is so much more to life than earth by itsself.

i can't help but get thoroughly enveloped in this kind of documentary. the mind boggles at how far you can imagine into unknown depths and considering the concept of infinity. if you like this, you should check out a documentary called Dangerous Knowledge... it's pretty deep though, have one roll ed before you check it out.

Yes, yes. Try to get your hands on this film, "IMAX - Hubble's View of the Universe - StarGaze." This will make really think about the universe when you smoke. I always watch it when I smoke.

I think about it all the time. It's amazing, but I also think it's kind of scary; There's nothing separating us from all that but a layer of gas.
Sometimes I look up in the middle of the day and think of how insane it is that we're on a rock orbiting a massive ball of gas. It's so intricately balanced and intimidating, but nobody really appreciates the enormity of it.
PS- I just packed a bowl of green with some oil on top. This one's for t he universe!
