The original footage made the Enterprise look like a spoon with warp nacelles. With CGI, we can have dynamic shots, the camera shooting from any angle the animators can think of, free from the physical restrictions of reality. The special effects for the original series was, AT THE TIME, revolutionary. But they are severely outdated now. At least they didn't "special edition" the show. "Now with new special effects and the Enterprise shooting first! Just like Gene would've wanted!"

Maybe .. but it looks FAKE. I never remember feeling that when I watched ToS. I admire all the work that went into this and love they obviously have for the show .. but at the end of the day the shots of the ships etc just look fake. They scream CGI. There is no believability in them at all.

Much as I hate to, I agree with allen and ashes. The new Enterpris looks more like an animation and less like a real ship. The orignal may have been fuzzy, but it looked like it was made out of real materials, not computer bytes.

Trekie since the mid 70s, and I generally fall on the side of leaving classics alone. But one late night while channel surfing a few months ago, I stumbled across Star Trek on NBC. I thought it was awesome that they were showing it on the big network, so I started watching and soon realized what they had done, and I was BLOWN AWAY. IMO the amount of tinkering was spot on and very faithful to the original, and the end result was and is SPECTACULAR.

these remastered Opening Titles are great! but the new FX in the episodes themselves don't work alongside 1960s footage.

The Enterprise in ... ( 3 months ago by dylan2096)
The Enterprise in the Remastered series looks a tad bit fake. But everything blends together, it doesnt look like a cut and paste of moving objects[like the original]. Plus the artists were a bit constrained as they wanted to get the grit and feel of the shots right. Now if they had used the USS Defiant model from "In a Mirror, Darkly, the shots could have been allot better. As that model had allot of depth and realism to it. Now most of the shots in the original, looked fake. You...

...could tell they were only models though. And the only other alien space ship we ever saw, was the Klingon D-7 Battle Cruiser. The episode where the CGI really worked was in the "Doomsday Machine". The Machine and the Constellation came out great. Plus the machine had more size and scale. As when the shuttlecraft entered the maw, u saw how huge the thing was! It didnt even fit on the viewscreen! But...

...in the original, the shuttlecraft appeared large opposed to the machine. But in my opinion, the remastered series is great, and breaths new life into the original series.

The one episode I was looking forward to seeing redone was The Doomsday Machine and I have to say, I wasn't disappointed at all. The new CGI made that episode way better. I loved the flyby shots of the Enterprise firing the phasers at the machine. Very well done. As for the rest of the series, for me it was okay here and there for the CG. Didn't care for all of it, but a good majority of it was well done.

It's not bad at all. It brings back old memories of the 1960's. I like it either way unremasterd or remastered. :)

I agree. Just look at the Enterprise episodes "In A Mirror, Darkly". The old stuff still looks pretty cool.
