Put your hand in there and let them smell you. If they bite, it won't be to hurt, but to taste. Try handing them a treat from your fingers and petting their head.
You may have to force them out of the cage. I did have to do t his once for one rat, but she warmed up to me in twenty minutes.

Celtic8781, thanks for putting us celts down. Rats are pretty intelligent, i wont shout at you because it would be like shouting at a retard. Maybe you should study some zoology, particulary ethology and mammalogy, hopefully you'll see that rats dispite being scavengers in the wild are pretty damn intelligent and make loving pets. I'd get an adult to help you with the zoology though, it maybe a little too deep for you.

I have 3 rats and giving them a bath differs from enjoyable to hell! For the most difficult rat I found that giving him a bath was much easier as he can just climb out and panics allot less as he dosen't feel trapped. Also I wear a rubber glove on one hand to minimize scratches. Makes the bath time that much more enjoyable for the rat and myself! :)
