What John Petrucci is doing on the electric isn't as hard as it sounds. That is old hat for guitarists who grew up in the 1980's when tons of shredders were on tap. Like Paul Gilbert, Ritchie Kotzen, Vinnie Moore, Steve Vai, Joe Satch, and above all ALLAN HOLDSWORTH. I might add Petrucci would have to take lessons for another 20 years to be on Allan's level technically. But thats silly to compare them. Allan is a fusion cat..

gobbler6 - is your first name cock? jk. Dude, I can appreciate what EVH did for young shredders incorporating tapping. . .yadda yadda yadda. But Petrucci is the complete package man. You would have to know his entire musical catelog to even make a coherent comment on his skill/technique whatever. Go worship your hasbeen.

it doesnt matter, he's known for his tapping and when he does his most famous tapping riff people go crazy because it sounds so damn awesome. It's not overrated because he took the time to come up with his own style and no one can duplicate the EVH tapping

I've played a Peavey EVH Wolfgang and they're seriously amazing guitars! Just wanted to say to the several comments comparing to Petrucci, the two players are of totally different musicial disciplines and to make judgements between the two in my opinion is a little bit blind! I think they're both absolutely incredible and inspirational... enough said...

Now I love EVH and I cut my teeth on his playing for a long time...but this solo was the LEAST clean I have ever heard him play. I know everyone has an off night and the dude is amazing, dont get me wrong but this was just sloppy in my opinion. I am not a huge fan of his new tone either...the new amp sounds really muddy to me...that's just my opinion, I could be wrong (400 lbs Gorilla, Dennis Miller)

Please try to keep inane thoughts like who would win a guitar battle.. blah frickin blah. This EVH- he single handedly revolutioned guitar tone and style. He and Hendrix are the two most influential and innovative players.
