Again. I don't understand why people have something against this. Some people, like myself, like to visit places were people like Chris was once. It's a great feeling, and it's extremely emotional, coming out to be a great experience afterwords. I'm not going for days, I'm going for a couple of hours, just to visit the bus. some of you are missing the point of the movie. yes he was stupid in not being prepared to live in the alaskan wilderness. but the point is that he wanted to live a different life, he saw life in a different way that society sees it. he saw happiness by living freely instead of seeing it in money.

Im so in love with this movie.its sad to know that hes dead.but at the same time we can learn from his mistakes.the pure beauty of that land is so amazing but he did have mental prombles that came from his family life which isnt uncommon. McCandless risk-taking and overconfident behavior which led to his death stemmed from an untreated mental illness, such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.i will visit that bus one day and pay the up most respect!

There were emergency food supplies cached in the area around the bus. All those caches were vandalized, presumably by "Supertramp" in the manner that he had burned all his money earlier...so that he could use neither.
There is no hero here. By destroying the emergency supplies, he risked not only his life, but the lives of others who visit the back country.
And the "poison seeds" bit is the purest fiction written into the movie script. Suicide by ignorance and self-centeredness.
