and ye adaz450 is right, that is what hes using for the solo. the only wah john has IS the ibanez wh10, its discontinued but its a fukin wicked pedal and well worth the £90+ price tag on ebay

john does somtimes use the BOSS DS-2 with the big muff at the same time, but im pretty sure about this cos in a few interviews he talks through the whole album and what effects he used ect ect....
and i have the official note book at it clearly says "distorted guitar" and "w/wah"
no fuking phaser...if your in a band and you cover this song...try playing the solo with phaser....aint gonna work...its just played REALLY fast and he uses a good wah..thts why is sounds whooshy....

im not saying i disagree but the thing with some metal bands is they record a solo so dagnastically hard that its impossible to recreate live so they have to wing their solos in ways similar to the original version.
but i think i saw one performance of them and i didnt think it sounded all that great, through the fire and the flames is a damn crazy song tho. i dont really like metal that that song has lots of nut-breaking riffs in it.

pretty sure just wah, one person earlier said he doesnt use a phaser altho it sounds like he does. and i read that in the recording for the album he filtered that part.
but right here im pretty sure its just wah and he's playing really fast, so it sounds wooshy bcuz of that.
