Of course he is better than galway, because galway uses a lot of vibrato, and he has better embochure an technique than rampal, he is the better flute player that has ever been.

It's quite bold saying that Pahud is "the best flutist" there is. Yes, of course he's maybe one of the best, but one can't forget about those other fine musicians that we have. Jaques Zoon, Beno ît Fromanger, Patrick Gallois, and probably some non-french flute players aswell. It's always a matter of taste I suppose. I think Gallois plays Mozart and C.P.E Bach much more interesting than Pahud. THen again I think Pahud plays music from the romantic period better than Gallois. But I don't thi nk ...

Fromanger or Zoon plays this kinda music less brilliant. I don't think Pahud takes enough chanses in his playing. It's always perfect. If you follow the score you'll see he doesn't do anything but what's in the notes.
And when it comes to Galway, remember that he actually once had the prinsipal flute possition in the Berlin Phil. too. At that time he was actually a terrific flutist. And now? He's good at some styles. I'd prefer listening to his recording of the Kachaturian consert if I had..

to choose between him and Pahud. It's a matter of style. I think one should focus on what the different flutists can give when they play the music they're best at, and not they're lacks (which is an easy focus when you play the flute yourself) and who's the best overall. :) But by all means, he's superb, Pahud. Really. An inspiration.

Gallois is a great player at times, but he massacred the Mozart concertos on his Naxos recording. Added tons of ridiculous runs and trills and chirps and made a sickening mess of it. I deleted them from my itunes. I'll never listen to them again.

I disaggree! The first time I listened to those recordings I just laughed. But after giving them a chance, I've really discovered that they're fantastic. But I guess I often like what's different. It only proves there is not only one way of doin' things. Thank God :) And it's also very common to get hung up with the first recording you hear of a piece. My first cd with flute music was one of Susan Milan's. I'm glad I didn't stay with the Milan style for more than some years! haha!
