This was a project I did in college at ASU for class. Yes, I also worked at the library, and Betty Glover (an incredibly sweet lady) was my boss. This was way before non-linear editing. It's a bit dated, but still holds up pretty well, I think.

I was 10 at the time this was made, and I was into computers then, yet it still amazes me just how old fashioned those computers look.

I was 21 when this was made, and I also was into computers since I was 10. There had been few advances from 1976 technology and that the of computers shown here. These were just "dumb terminals" tied to a mainframe. Early GUI's were available (both Mac and Windows), but they were not used here. The COMputer CATalog (SPIN) featured microfische of mainframe printouts of collections catalogged on old mainframes. It took html to push things to the present.

That was an awesome excercise video! Some of us are just too fat to do this, but definitely a good workout. I will write about at tincap . To visit it just go on google and search for "tincap".

People keep commenting "how much things change in 20 years"... I can confirm the Hayden Library is not one of those things. Minute slightly more modern computers, and a nipple-like addition, it looks EXACTLY the same. I recognized it from a still shot of a bookcase.

This is one of my favorite videos of all time! Thank you so much for making it. Seriously, it being dated is NOT a bad thing! People don't always realize that dated doesn't have to be bad.
It seems like your library had the largest amount of employees ever!

are you kidding? you clearly haven't been in a library in awhile. the internet brings many patrons TO the library, and it allows librarians to broaden information literacy by teaching people to use the internet as a tool. the internet allows people access to book discussions, reviews, etc., and they come to the library seeking those books.

additionally, librarians use the internet as a reference tool, broadening the range of questions we are able to answer, in some cases. the internet has been a real boon to libraries, and libraries are far from dead.
