QR,
We didn't stop all imported oil in the 70s. We did slow its increase some, but that was with the economy then. Canada is the biggest contributor of oil, yes, but they alone can't solve our problem.
It's our mindset that needs readjusting. We don't need to drive around in tanks. We don't need to package the sh*t out of everything. And we can do with less plastics (90% of all plastics come from oil).
The above will take at least 5 more years to develop.

ahhh no I think our government just needs to quit selling all of our mineral rights to oil companies there is plenty of oil here in America and there needs to be either a federal or state ran oil company that will sell atleast 10% of the oil output at rock bottom prices that way the private oil sectoy would be forced to compete with cheap fuel instead of just maintaining it's current monopoly.far as global warming I'm not convinced. In Pennsylvania this summer has been cold and chilly all year.
ONE TENTH OF THE ... ( 1 month ago by flintstone9812)
ONE TENTH OF THE LAND IN NEW MEXICO COULD MEET THE ENERGY DEMANDS OF THE ENTIRE USA. Got that people? There is NO waste product, the alga is put back into the system after lipids are extracted. The system could even be powered by a diesel engine burning the oil. Yes, solar energy would be a great supplement. Use it with a bank of batteries to power the pumps, even more savings. Initially the fuel may not be cheaper, business has to recoup costs but it would end imported oil that is bleeding USA.

yeah the idea of the pump is what makes the system more efficient with space requirements

I see alot of responses of people that don't listen. 20,000 gallons /acre per year in a pond system. Stop talking a bout negligable power consumptions and waste products. The pumps to circulate that system he was showing use the amount of a high watt light bulb. 85 watts per bank of loop. And all the products are either returned to the system or used to fulfill other demands. An old timey windmill could supplement the pumping through the system. The corn lobby will assasinate this guy.

Watch the video on the Valcent website, the pipe that takes the water to the top of the system is smaller than the pipes used to clean the tanks at Sea World, what makes more money deisel, or tickets to see Shamu?

AWESOME. IT'S ABOUT TIME! We should have our units in our backyards, right next to our veggie gardens - damn the oil co's, taxes, we'll have access to our own energy for our homes, our cars...completely independent. But I am sure they will tax us for it, they just took a man to court for not buying gas, therefore paying the taxes. He converted his engine to use veggie oil.

A ) Because there would be a huge amount of fuel required for harvesting it. B ) Because it would disrupt the already frail ecosystem in the oceans.

from looking at their stock (VCTPF) it must no work ,or all of you out there that love to badmouth the oil company. wont put your money where your mouth is. why dont you invest your money into this company to make it happen. or do you want to be like everyone else and just bitch and do nothing but write about it ?
from where i sit, this company is going to die and not because of BIG OIL or BIG CORN. but because of YOU NOT PUTTING YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very impressive ... ( 2 weeks ago by borncoza)
Very impressive data is delivered here, but will it be available sooner enough to avoid the economical effects of high oil prices? Water supplies, what about water supplies? I guess that in NM, water is as rare as in California, farmers have pumped too much water in some places. Correct me if I am wrong but algae can grow in salted water. Algenol claims this can make fresh water from seawater during the process.

Seems as if they are working very hard to begin producing this stuff. Sites like AlgaePetro dot comm and others are trying to do their part and spread the word too. Just yesterday I read and article that said they may be building an Algae fuel facility minutes from my home. If it happens it looks like it would be in Holland Michigan and Michigan may invest as much as $7 million towards the project. This technology makes too much sense to ignore.

What a ... ( 3 hours ago by SailorBarsoom)
What a distressingly defeatist attitude. Why wouldn't a corporation be able to make money off of a hundred thousand gallons of jet fuel? Or here's an idea: build a one-acre, twenty-five story building. Now you have twenty-five acres. Think a corporation might be able to make a little money out of two and a half MILLION gallons of diesel? Bet you could power Saturn 5 style rocket engines with this.

Actually, the best algae is around 9% efficient. The best solar cells are around 30% efficient. However, the algae produces fuel which can be put into jet engines or semi trucks or other such.
