what's ironic about ... ( 3 weeks ago by tomloft2000)
what's ironic about this "peace and love" festival is that it began as a commercial venture-tickets were sold, money raised.this only became a free concert out of necessity.the promoters were in the red for almost 20 years.

Tomloft, Huh? Do ... ( 3 weeks ago by zertrat)
Tomloft, Huh? Do you know the meaning of irony? This was one of the glorious culture/art events of its time. The promoters had investment interest? You bet they did, but that 20-yr deal you allude to makes the point, that profit to them was second to the art. You imply a hypocricy. I see one in your post. No irony.
the reason i say ... ( 2 weeks ago by tomloft2000)
the reason i say it's ironic is that this festival was intended to be a much smaller event formed by 4 guys-two were into business, the other two were in the music world.for them, things didn't go as planned(there were people tearing down the gates)so a much larger crowd attended for free(although many did pay).if this had gone off as planned,we might not be talking about it to this day.
They made money. ... ( 2 weeks ago by SumnerMurrayRedstone)
They made money. They made tonnes of it. And they planned to. And they planned well. But it seems to have been a good time for all.

i was just in bethel, new york and i went to the site of the concert and i hopped over the fence with the 60's attitude and some asshole security guard came over and ruined it by kicking me off the field, wheres the woodstock spirit? these police think theyre gods and they can just ruin your fun. i mean what was i going to do? Steal the grass?

no this is not true ... ( 1 week ago by lilleslayer)
no this is not true. Just don't listen to what the radio or mtv is playing ... listen to internet radio.. lots of good music these days.. it is just not in the mainstream.. the record companies are to blame - not the artist, you need to understand that !
it would be badass ... ( 1 week ago by phoneix91)
it would be badass if this was on LIVE tv; woodstock 99 was live for three days straight commerical free.

The first Earth Day ... ( 3 days ago by patspray)
The first Earth Day was held in spring of 1970. The Cuyahoga River in Ohio was so polluted that it caught on fire in the summer of 1969. Considerable portions of Lake Erie were considered dead because of the massive die off from algae growing on the vast amounts of agricultural and industrial wastes flowing unabated into the lake. Even global warming (or climate change - if you'd rather be completely correct)was well underway.
Lead was being ... ( 3 days ago by patspray)
Lead was being pumped into the atmosphere at an alarming rate (lead being an additive in gasoline until the 1980s). Those young people in 1969 inherited a mess well beyond what you seem to know. Never mind an unwinnable war and an unequal social fabric divided along the lines of color.
My only question is - will the young people of today step up and try to make things better too? Will they too "speak up against the madness"?
