Tati's films are the brilliant grandchildren of the silent comedies of Chaplin and Keaton, and "Mon Oncle" is the pinnacle -- sweeter, more subtle and more sophisticated. It's refreshing to see that this time he doesn't need to resort to violence to get laughs, as he had in "M. Hulot's Holiday" (viz, the fireworks finale).
