They are urging people to monitor the storm's progress closely. (July 11)[Notes:all images from NOAA]Hurricane Bertha is already having an effect on Bermuda as it inches closer to the island.The storm has lost some of its strength from earlier in the week but remains a Category One hurricane with top sustained winds at about 85 miles per hour.Bertha is about 350 miles southeast of Bermuda and is moving toward it at seven miles per hour.The storm is already producing some large swells and high surf there that are expected to continue for the coming days.Forecasters say they may issue a tropical storm watch for the island but add it's still not clear just how close Bertha will come.For now they are urging residents to keep a close eye on its progress. ___ ___, The Associated Press.
