In the north east pacific ocean, covering an area more then twice the size of Texas, there is a huge deposit of floating plastic. But what is being done about it?

I agree the laws ... ( 1 month ago by theradiostarr)
I agree the laws should be enforced or at the least the clean up bill sent to the culprit. I suggest the production of such products, that last indefinitely and are toxic be outlawed. A good place to start is to not use them - refuse to give money (through buying their product) to destructive industries. If no one buys it, it won't be manufactured and hence not end up in the sea.
Quite a most ... ( 1 month ago by sralmy)
Quite a most excellent point theradiostarr. I will start right now, its just going to be tough. For instance, I will only drink Artisian water, and all I have available in my small town is 1 brand thats in plastic bottles. So then I have to make the choice to either drive to a big city (45 min away) or drink tap or some polluted unnatural water (which is completly out of the question for me).
So should I drive 45min one way? Die of thirst? Or take what they offer and recycle the plastic?
the more I think ... ( 1 month ago by sralmy)
the more I think about it, everything around me is mostly plastic/oil.
My car, the wrap around virtually all fresh foods, my CC's, my keyboard, my amp, telephone, all packaging, all gabage bags, all bottles, my TV, my game system, picture frames, hats, my food (yes foods, look up on YT Micheal C Ruppert), virtually everything!
Heres a quote for you from myself...
Plastic = OILs = $ = GREED = WAR = DEAD PEOPLE
In other words...
Plastic kills.
I think I got it.
Peace
Couldnt agree more ... ( 1 month ago by sralmy)
Couldnt agree more about the faith in individuals. Spot on.
There's not enough ... ( 1 month ago by theradiostarr)
There's not enough switched on people in the world so i dont suggest dying of dehydration... :) Is it possible to install a filter on a tap where you live? A good friend of mine has a rain water tank installed from his roof- the water is then drip filtered through an urn - tastes great. There are heaps of personal water filters on the market.
nature will deal ... ( 1 month ago by scrumptiousvittles)
nature will deal with it. we are not "killing the oceans forever" as many like to say. we are killing the oceans for the next 500 years. either bacteria will evolve to digest this new substance or marine life will adapt to thrive with anything that does not eventually biodegrade. what we are doing is creating a natural world that is hostile to life in this blink of an eye in earth's history. i don't fear the death of nature, but rather the death of the environment in which we and others evolved.
you are a genius... ... ( 1 month ago by boontarfin)
you are a genius... and by "genius"i mean complete idiot...
sorry, my last ... ( 1 month ago by boontarfin)
sorry, my last comment was meant for scruptiousvittles below ...
We are surely ... ( 1 month ago by scrumptiousvittles)
We are surely bringing about radical change in the earth's ecosystems in a rapid and dangerous way. The actions of our species may be the modern-day equivalent of the asteroid that bumped off the dinosaurs 65 mya. We may not even survive the results of our idiocy. However, my point is merely that we haven't made nearly enough of a dent in the biosphere to cripple life on earth forever. Ocean life will adapt one way or another. Species that can live with the plastic will survive.
A few thousand ... ( 1 month ago by scrumptiousvittles)
A few thousand years is a blink of an eye in the history of life on earth. We have ruined the pristine nature of our oceans for our own split second on the stage, and that sucks for us that are alive right now, but it's necessary to keep things in perspective when making arguments about the environment. That's about all the idiocy I have for the moment. Please tell me where I'm wrong. You've annoyed me, but if you have a good argument against what I've said, then I won't mind. I love truth.
For someone who " ... ( 1 month ago by boontarfin)
For someone who "loves truth" you seem to have a strange grasp upon what truth is... anything i say to you you will think is ignorant or narrow-minded so i think i will save my breath... maybe you're right, maybe your future adapted fish people relatives will be able to eat plastic and recycle it that way...
Excellent. If you ... ( 1 month ago by scrumptiousvittles)
Excellent. If you were to bother to tell me where I'm wrong and show me why, then why would I call you ignorant and narrow-minded? The information I have put forth for the small point I have made can be found in any library or on the internet. As it is, you have failed to convince me, because you have chosen not to address anything I have said, and if I AM living in ignorance about this topic, then I will continue on in my unenlightened state.
You give me good ... ( 1 month ago by scrumptiousvittles)
You give me good reason to say that your only purpose in challenging my statement was to incite my anger, so that we two could have a youtube hate tussle. If that's the case then I will quit bothering you for relevant information. Perhaps, if you are wily enough and try hard enough, you will be able to evoke a purely spiteful comment from me. Then we can all be happy and blissfully scream "FUCK YOU AND YOUR SHIT" across the internet to one another. Ahh, what a joyous prospect!

A. good video, excellent topic, but why is bro wearing Crocs? Those are just going to be floating in the ocean one day, too. B. scrumptiousvittles, i'm not gonna say you're an idiot, but have you watched Thank You For Smoking? You might consider a career as a plastics lobbyist.
Those crocs ... ( 3 weeks ago by mattimusthe1st)
Those crocs definately pull some respect from that video
Okay, a guy shows ... ( 3 weeks ago by dangerousnymph)
Okay, a guy shows us a picture of a turtle with a small piece of plastic in his mouth, therefore it's apparently safe to assume the entire Atlantic ocean is covered in plastic debris.
Does this mean if I see a bat with a firecracker in it's mouth, it's safe to assume all flying rodents are part of a giant al Qaeda terrorist cell? Or that if my roommate hands me a dollar bill, therefore the entire Internet must do the same? All I ask for is consistency :) So send me those dol
lahs!
well okay, maybe ... ( 3 weeks ago by dangerousnymph)
well okay, maybe some arial footage of this plastic floating around en masse would suffice. Can't you find a pond somewhere and throw some milk jugs in it? At least make it look credible
Hey collateralnews, ... ( 1 week ago by punchpixie)
Hey collateralnews, you dumbass. Don't hijack a serious problem like the North Pacific Gyre filling with plastic for your own utterly ineffective drivel. Idiot.
great comment, ... ( 1 week ago by cheribro)
great comment, genius. Of course it does no good to expose these things. We just do it for the immense profit we make.
I think we're all ... ( 1 week ago by bigman1225)
I think we're all just doomed, theres one too many environmental disasters and people will watch this and be shocked. But after a day or two they'll forget about it and move on. We'll all just destroy this planet and it'll be the death of us all.
Great submission ... ( 6 days ago by immrlizard)
Great submission for the actual subject. It would be great to see someone try to capture that and help clean up the ocean. Even better if we would have prevented it from getting there in the first place. You may want to check your facts on the backlash aimed at Obama though. He isn't perfect, but a site better then what we have now, or will get if McCain gets elected.
"When you want to ... ( 4 days ago by dangerousnymph)
"When you want to argue think twice before saying something, because it might just sound retarded like your comment. "
Thanks falidafan. Would it make you feel better if I was wearing doc martens and a mohawk while i was saying it? Or should I just work on the smooth yet sarcastic Jersey accent and just wear a jaded expression? Because we all know simply nodding and accepting what authority tells us without que
stion is so "punk rock." Your mom called. She wants her politics back.
