I know this has been done a few times already, but I thought I'd put together my own little compilation of clips that basically explain emotive hardcore without having to explain what it is, but just by playing pieces of songs.
I made it somewhat chronologically correct. Not entirely, just enough to put the bands in their proper era. The clips go as followed: 1. Rites of Spring - "Hidden Wheel" 2. One Last Wish - "Three Unkind Silences" 3. Embrace - "Dance of Days" 4. Gray Matter - "Chutes and Ladders" 5. Beefeater - "
Reaganomix" 6. Moss Icon - "I'm Back Sleeping, or Fucking, or Something" 7. Saetia - "Some Natures Catch No Plagues" 8. Orchid - "New Ideas in Mathematics" 9. City of Caterpillar - "And You're Wondering How A Top Floor Could Replace Heaven" 10. Swing Kids - "Fourty Three Seconds" 11. Funeral Diner -
"It is Good That we Never Met" 12. Comadre - "Teeth Versus Teeth" 13. The Shivering - "Weave" *And I know some people already subscribed to me will probably be thinking "wtf is this shit" when they see it, but click anyway... it might be different than you expect it to be. And tell me what you th
ink of the list.

It was labeled as ... ( 2 months ago by Relyt22)
It was labeled as emocore in the mid-80s when a handful of bands were trying this new sound. At the time, it was just post-hardcore, like you're saying, but the term "emocore" spread through the fan-base, and it's rumored that Guy Piccioto spread it himself, but it's hard to say. There's even a YouTube video of Ian Mackaye ranting about the term during a live 1985 performance. Look up "ian mackaye emocore is stupid".

Yea dude, it was all about Gormadre weekends for me in 06' Its a bummer that they hardly ever come down to SoCal anymore but I love that band so much that I've gone up to the bay 4 times to see them play this year. Theyre are really solid dudez and we always get stoked to see each other.

Yeah it was at a show in Anaheim that I bought it. At the unlikely venue of Chain Reaction, where I could have sworn only the trendiest bands played after 2004 or so. I hear it used to be mostly punk bands before that.
Oh gotcha, it was ... ( 1 month ago by conheartist)
Oh gotcha, it was during the Trainwreck tour then. Juan gave me the split cd that night and then I bought the record off of Trainwreck. Before 04' was good, Botch, These Arms Are Snakes, Pretty Girls make Graves, Le Shok, Treadwell, At The Drive-In... everyone used to play there all the time. I remember always trying to get rides there all the time but everyone told me to fuck off and to listen to ________ because they had a good single on kroq. Fuck that.

I had a friend who was in a couple hardcore bands in the late 90s/early 00s and I guess he used to play there, even before it was called Chain Reaction.

The none could easily argue that IWSMOFFY is emo.. also you could probably classify I Hate Myself as emo too.. and funeral diner is definitely skramz.

'I Hate Myself' was name given to sort of poke fun at the dark and depressing moods of bands at the time. Emo Summer were kind of a joke like In/Humanity, yet several bands took after their style of "emo violence".

If that's from their later album, I deleted it. IMO their 80s stuff is great, but their 90s stuff is boring.

omg, this shit is awesome. more exposure of me to emo bands. (I've had some exposure and knew what emo was but because my comp sucks I don't have a lot of space to download songs) I love your list, it rules.
