Well, the verdict is in. I've been watching both Bill Hicks' and Denis Leary's material for the past few days, and conclude that Leary definitely used alot of this material in '92, which is a several years after this was done.

Apparently on one of the (many) occasions Bill quit smoking a journo asked him why(given his pro smoking stance). His reply? - "To see if Denis would".... Hmmm. Denis was VERY funny doing his own material but when you check out the similarities as you did it all comes out eh? Can I recommend his biog by Cynthia True , "American Scream"? There's a reference to D.L. in there too which is an eye opener (plus it's a great read if a little sad towards the end) I love Bill. He ruled.

The real telling this is that Leary has never come up with anything decent since.
I've never met anyone who enjoyed Hicks who didn't feel certain Hicks would still be relevant and kicking ass had he lived.
I don't think Leary would have spent his life leaching off Bill, but there was something in Bill's agressive approach, and in the materail he was doing in the early 90s that Leary was able to re-interpret for himself, and that was all he had in him.
But Bill was an true innovator.
