Actually, since all the national initiative does is add another legislative branch whose laws would still subject to supreme court rulings on their constitutionality, the initiative can't produce tyranny, only keep it in check. People should have a right to make their own laws.

so you trust the supreme court to fairly decide our laws by picking which national initiative to enforce. it still sounds like tyranny to me! Bt the way the courts have ruled that the gov does not have to show the people the laws it enforces

Enforcement is a separate issue. If a law is ruled unconstitutional it is no longer law. In order for the supreme court to rule on constitutionality it would have to have been appealed at a lower state or federal level. I trust the the supreme court a lot more than the CIA or military tribunals and paramilitary forces...

slaves and women had the same fears those folks do when they were first confronted with whether they should participate in government. Look at the polls.. Americans know this war is wrong. All Americans want Cheney impeached and Bush atlest censured. That is more adequate and logical then any of the games being played on capital hill. Now just imagine if those polls were votes. How much faster progress would be made. It saddens me to see people that don't understand these simple measures.

I'm not against representative government. I just think that we as a peoples of our respective homelands should realize that most convenient and effective society for everybody would be such that we wouldn't coerce people into cooperation on matters they don't want to be part of, as long as those who do not participate do not hurt anybody. Greater (more invasive) public control inevitably brings about more corruption and unjust use of power.

Representative government really is about giving up freedoms. I think this is not under dispute. And as I said, I think the electorate should decide that they want to give up only those rights that are needed to guarantee that nobody can deprive us of even more of our rights. Night watchman state.

If Ron Paul wasn't running, Kucinich would have my vote. This bothers me and I hope some people get pissed off and will result in a change in the way we set up our debates. There are so many technicalities in government and in many areas of society because of our expanding population and globalizationn that everything is so impersonal. There are many things that just don't make sense any more. We need huge change in many areas of the government.
