The writers strike is crucial. Its resolution will determine how creative minds will be paid in the future. Intellectual property and publishing rights are sacred in civilized nations. When money is generated, content creators should be compensated.
So Big Media & The Man are perverting democracy beyond recognition... Business as usual ! But to have "The Daily Show" & "The Colbert Report" permanently on re-runs...That does it !
"I'm mad as hell & I'm not going to take it anymore" ;)
As far as writers go, Gonzo certainly had a way with words ;) "The TV business is uglier than most things. It is normally perceived as some kind of cruel and shallow money trench through the heart of the journalism industry, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men die
like dogs, for no good reason. There's also a negative side. " - Hunter S. Thompson

AMERICAN PEOPLE'S ... ( 8 months ago by JFWilliam)
AMERICAN PEOPLE'S REAL OPPOSITION SHACKLED ! With Jon Stewart's "Daily Show", "The Colbert Report" and Bill Maher's "Real Time" out of the way, the 2008 presidential campaign can go on without being questioned outside the script. There is no more popular political education going on, this side of Bill Moyers and GoLeft TV. The joke is on America & we ain't laughing. BRING OUR BOYS BACK... ALL OUR BOYS & GALLS !
Umm, the writers ... ( 7 months ago by Archedgar)
Umm, the writers ARE "The Man" to a lot of people , they are costing thousands of people their job because of their greed. Personally, I am disgusted at people claiming that they are martyrs.
Writers can, indeed ... ( 7 months ago by JFWilliam)
Writers can, indeed, be used as tools of alienation... But we have to rise above petty day to day grievance to grasp the big picture. Any content creator should be justly compensated for his copyrighted work. This notion is part of the whole human right concept. I know this is exactly the type of idea our masters has, did & will fight tooth & nail... remember slavery ? But it has also been proven through history that solidarity can defeat greed... Go writers go !
FCC CRONIES RAM IT ... ( 7 months ago by JFWilliam)
FCC CRONIES RAM IT DOWN PEOPLE'S THROAT ! Bush-appointed FCC Chair Kevin Martin, served as deputy general counsel for the Bush-Cheney campaign in 2000, he was active during the Florida recount. His wife, Cathie Martin, was a spokeswoman for Vice President Dick Cheney in the midst of the scandal around the outing of CIA operative Valerie Plame. She now works on Bush's communications staff. So what else is new ?
I'm sure you ... ( 7 months ago by Archedgar)
I'm sure you completely misunderstood my point, the writers = greed. They were offered a reasonable deal and turned it down, and furthermore, their methods of going on strike and costing tons of people their jobs in the process earns no sympathy from me, if they would relax, sit down and discuss it without these archaic methods, they would cease hurting the little guy AND the industry as a whole. Damn greedy writers.
Nope, I got your ... ( 7 months ago by JFWilliam)
Nope, I got your misguided union busting point all right, but check your stats and the latest FCC ruling; The Man with it's media consolidation, anti-democratic, power grabbing media-plutocracy is on the sick side of absolute greed. Since when are artist the cause of all evil while our media-military-industrial complex wreaks the world with incessant abuse. Crack a book or two about the world you live in instead of regurgating the intellectual pablum you've been fed by The Man ;)
David Letterman got ... ( 7 months ago by JFWilliam)
David Letterman got it, now United Artist does... There is still remnants of humanity in all of us ;) Go writers Go, sock it to them ! Meanwhile... The wealthiest 1% of Americans earned 21.2% of all income in 2005. The bottom 50% got their hands on 12.8% and we should lose sleep on the faith of our masters... puhleaaase ;)
ADVANTAGE COLBERT ! ... ( 7 months ago by JFWilliam)
ADVANTAGE COLBERT ! Although Stewart's return was neatly excused, Colbert is such a improv master, his show was transcendent while Jon's plainly showed that to get rid of writers all the remaining staff had to become... well... euh... writers ;)
Directors Reach ... ( 7 months ago by JFWilliam)
Directors Reach Deal With Hollywood Studios / THE MAN wants to isolate the writers so they can put the burden of economic slowdown squarely on their shoulders in a divide & conquer fashion. Their putdown line of choice is to tag them as snotty retarded privileged adolescents lost into World of Warcraft and Guitar Hero antics. Nothing about union busting though ;)
Yesterday's Daily ... ( 7 months ago by JFWilliam)
Yesterday's Daily Show with Jon Stewart was a sad reminder of how much writers are needed to elevate any TV show from the humdrum corpo-propaganda big media has sunk to. Poor Jon himself had a moment of clear despair and his interview (about liberal fascism ;) was the worst train wreck I've seen in a long time with a dozen of edits... a practice I had never noticed that badly on that show up to now... ADVANTAGE COLBERT INDEED ! Check the show with Lou Dods and SEX & Robots... Masterfull !

The Writers Guild of America announced a deal with the studios that secures them a cut of internet revenues. The NYT says writers are warily optimistic about the deal, while the WP says writers are "jubilant" about "victory."

How about a campaign against the five curses of humanity : WAR, POVERTY, ENVIRONMENTAL DESTRUCTION' IGNORANCE & DISEASE. Now that would yield better results for each & everyone of us but the industrial-military-complex, Now wouldn't that be something ! "We must repudiate the structure of economic privilege and the tyranny of war makers" - George McGovern 1975 / PEACE !
