From Boston Dynamics (http://www.bdi.com/index.php) comes this odd-looking, gasoline-powered robot that looks like two guys carrying a couch, but acts almost alive.
"BigDog is powered by a gasoline engine that drives a hydraulic actuation system. BigDog's legs are articulated like an animal's, and have compliant elements that absorb shock and recycle energy from one step to the next. BigDog is the size of a large dog or small mule, measuring 1 meter long, 0.7
meters tall and 75 kg weight. BigDog has an on-board computer that controls locomotion, servos the legs and handles a wide variety of sensors. BigDog's control system manages the dynamics of its behavior to keep it balanced, steer, navigate, and regulate energetics as conditions vary. Sensors for
locomotion include joint position, joint force, ground contact, ground load, a laser gyroscope, and a stereo vision system. Other sensors focus on the internal state of BigDog, monitoring the hydraulic pressure, oil temperature, engine temperature, rpm, battery charge and others. So far, BigDog ha
s trotted at 3.3 mph, climbed a 35 degree slope and carried a 120 lb load."

This is perhaps one of the most inspiring examples of legged machines having some practicality. With the chief complaints being that the machine could topple or simply not navigate terrain well even this somewhat shaky gait from a completely AI guided device gives me hopes that in my lifetime I will be able to see crazy gundam/ mechassault vehicles going around. Though hopefully no one will try to make an EVA or we might get that whole creepy sequence of events.

you can speak english, it's way better than using a faulty translator. are you saying that you're in charge of acquiring this type of equipment for the army? lmao. come on buddy, you're way out of line with your zealous comments and your nerdy tone. "Can it be used to kill terrorists" are you fucking serious? how old are you, I pray God that you're just an angry and scared teen, cos you can't possibly be that naive.
Ok,here is American ... ( 1 month ago by modeler308)
Ok,here is American english. No,I am not connected with the US Military. I was asking questions that MIGHT be asked if I were. The arrangment of the'legs'on one of the ends is backwards. It moves much too slowly to be practical as a weapons platform. Unlike France which has surrendered its soverenty to pretty much everyone,America isnt that way. We will use ANYTHING to defeat the islamofascists. We havent had any terrorists killing anyone on OUR streets. You sleep well tonight,if you can.
