I think all the changes in management, all the wrestlers coming and going, and all the main eventers unwilling to put over the rising mid-carders killed what was left of WCW. It could've been Russo, or Bischoff, Jim Crockett, Don Owen, or even Sam Mushnick. WCW was such a mess in 1999 that there was no saving it. After the "fingerpoke of doom," that was the end of it all.

I agree with you here. But you see how mid-card Jarrett was given the belt in 2000, someone completely new and as much as he did deserve the belt, the fans really did not care for Jarrett being champion. If any heel should have been champion besides JJ, it should have been Scott Steiner since he is obviously a bigger draw than JJ. If Steiner would have been champ in 2000, perhaps there could have been a chance for WCW. But by the time Steiner became champ in 2001, WCW was already near death.

Steiner did hold the WCW title in 2000. He defeated Booker T at the PPV Mayhem to win the WCW Title, in what I believe was called the "Asylum Match." Good theory, but your research wasn't on target.
