Penchein Lama and DL accepted titles under great duress and pressure. Of course the Chinese stated Tibet was theirs. BUT Tibetans fought off Britain without their help and thus won their autonomy. No legitimacy for China's rule. Being a Buddhist country their army was small and friendly with China. MOST TIBETANS WANT THE DL BACK ASAP. Go there and ask them for yourself. This guy is obviously reading from a cue card.

i also been Tibet for a month, what i see it's not everybody say in western city, of coz i see someone dislike the CCP, just like happen in other western city, some like some don't, so i don't see any problems in this. i live in Canada and i'm Chinese, i do not agree the CCP but i still love my motherland, something really funny i found out it's why a monk(Dalai Lama) can do such a high profile and he killed lots of Tibetan slave before and still could get the noble prize for peace.

takealook2008 - DL is not suggesting a return to the old system. Although I will tell you that many scholars & people who traveled through China and Tibet prior to 1949 say that many in China had it far worst than those in Tibet and in fact that Tibetans seemed much happier in general. Besides all the crap about the Dalai Lama is futile ways many Chinese employ to try to justify and rationalize illegal occupation of Tibet and take their land, lumber, water, rich resources like uranium, etc.

takealook2008 - Not to mention the massive population of Han-Chinese that has moved into Tibet. This is nothing more or less than your basic run of the mill multi-level genocide. Right now nomads are having their land confiscated and they are being moved into relocation camps. Not everyone in the world agrees with your idea of progress. Just like not everyone agrees with Western view of progress. From a Tibetan viewpoint they are both barbaric.

takealook2008 - Tibetans want a degree of modernization but on their terms at their own base and it should be by their own decision, not by force, not by forced assimilation. The lies run very deep, like so many Chinese saying Tibet has always been a part of China. This is so clearly false. In fact, there were moments in history when waring between nations was more common and Tibet conquered many parts of China, even ancient capital.

i can only see oversea Tibetan and most of them Caucasian(even more than Tibetan) fighting for this, but most of Tibetan in Tibet like what they have now, i've been Tibet, i can see that, of coz some dislike the CCP, but i think it's normal, just like the western city, some like some don't. and think about why all western and the media did all things to China, i'm chinese, i can see the other side of the story, not just for freedom.

Not the ones I speak to and then there's the ones who are afraid to speak. So you think Tibetans like being marginalized in their own country? You're in denial. Go out to the country side, speak to monks and nuns and interview nomads. You won't feel the same. How can Tibetans speak up in Tibet? They go to prison, tortured and potentially killed. In order to understand the plan look at what happened to Buddhist in China prior to 1949, millions killed and Buddhism almost wiped out.

takealook2008 - A lot of Tibetans don't like CCP and a lot of Tibetans don't like how they're looked down on by Han-Chinese immigrants and a lot of Tibetans don't like losing their country. CIA is a joke. Iraq is a joke, a Bush scam and fortunately he'll soon be gone. It's not an issue of one group vs another, it's a problem of humanity in general. Freedom for Tibet is not a Western conspiracy. It's supporting an entire people and their right to be free and self-govern.

anyhow, if there's a joke, in many of our point of view it's all a joke too. i'm not saying China nothing wrong, but we're changing, we all don't want the old China anymore. i live in Canada for long time, i don't think i got brainwash by the CCP, because i was born in Hong Kong under the UK education, but i can see many different way and i totally know the history, don't wanna go thought too much, it will never end, but i can say lots of politics inside, they just use human right as a weapon.

It's never about the well being of the people, in this case the Tibetans. It's about money, territory and power, East vs West, all that crap. The facts are as follows: Tibet has billions of dollars worth of resources, iron, uranium, copper, borax, lithium and gold. China has already removed billions of dollars in lumber from Tibet's forests, and in contrast to various reports there is billions of dollars worth of oil in Tibet.

The Tibetan people, their beautiful culture and religious system means nothing to the Chinese government. Oh, they'll do a few token things, save a couple of monasteries here and there but in reality the entire system is being dismantled. There is a multi-level cultural genocide underway. Even the Han-Chinese who move into Tibet are much more apt to side with the Chinese government, as they have a vested interest in not seeing the truth.

The Tibetans have been marginalized in their own country, nomads are being relocated, and millions of Chinese have moved into Tibet. This was the plan of the government and it doesn't seem they will bend on this until Tibet is no longer Tibet, regardless of the name it will be anything but Tibet from a Tibetan's point of view.

Bone of contention is China has invaded a free and independent Tibet,continues to occupy,repress and undermines all cultural, religious and environmental concerns.
