It
´s been awhile but to find new 4 octave wonders is not an easy task! Here is Hansi Kürsch from Blind Guardian. Thanks to mmxzxz for finding me some material and thanks to axisundone and xunderbird for some "pitching". 1. A solid G#2 from "Noldor". 2. A short F2 from "gunslinger" from the 2nd CD w
ith Demons & Wizards.
3. A very strong Eb2 from Thorn. I
´ve heard two live versions where the note is not so strong so I think this is very his power bottoms out on the low end. I´m sure he can whisper a B1 though. 4. An E5 from "age of false innocence". 5. A F5 from "poor man´s crusade". 6. A very typical hansi high note where he starts and ends on D
#5 but manages to trill all the way up to a G#5, from "Fiddler on the green". 7. same pattern here but starting and ending note is F#5 and then all the way up to A5, from "this will never end". 8. An Ian Gillan "tribute" reaching Bb5, from "Travel in Stygian" live 2000 in Germany. 9. Another tribute
but this one tops at B5 AND has a clear E2 afterwards AND a whisper reaching at least D2! Hey, hey, HEEEEEY!

There are a few other high notes of his you should check out (not sure if they are as high as these ones or not, but still). The ending of "Precious Jerusalem," the screams in the second verse of "Punishment Divine," and of course "Chant" (I'm kinda surprised you didn't use that one). Then there's high stuff in almost all his chorus harmonies, but that may be just layering.

precious jerusalem has a nice chest E5 at the end and punishment has several D#5:s scattered across the song (very intense singing!). chant is not exceptionally high but a D2 is reached in the bass part.

i love these vids. Maybe make one with roy khan. I'm not that pro on range, but he hits some partly low notes on "abandoned", and the sustained E5 in "lunar sanctum" is simply amazing! Still, i dodn't know if it's worth it, but he's a very powerful singer, and have hit some high notes afte all. Not so sure about low notes.

Hansi is one of my reasons to have Blind Guardian as my favourite metal band,perhaps due to his voice colour.I consider "A Night At The Opera" as his best vocal performance,though "Nightfall in ME" and "D&W" come close. As for the B.Dickinson comparison I saw,that's useless and illogical.These are quite different vocal styles,each of them suited for different genre-you can't picture Bruce singing Guardian songs or vice versa,can you? ;)

THANK YOU, I've been hoping someone whould do something with Hansi's stellar vocal range, he's THE main reason I began singing, also for a future reference a good song to use would have been chant off the first D&W cd

That one part from Fiddler on the Green sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it, what brilliant songwriting, and true epic vocals. Thanks! I still wonder how you can actually measure this, or is this something you just have to "feel"?

well pitch is "feeled" like an intensity shifter. but I measure the pitch by using SW tools and instruments and sometimes for tricky ones I have to ask true musicians.

Maybe it was said before, But there is a spoken part a little over 5 minutes into the Demons and Wizards song "Dorian" that is somewhere around Eb (D#)2, But this is already a good enough Demonstration o his range.
