I first heard it in a cartoon that was made in the 1940s. That is how many people got their first exposure to classical music.
If you ever see or have seen the 1931 film of Dracula, the Dying Swan is the background music for the credits.

Herbert von Karajan conducts music like a Prussian he has EXCELLENT DISCLIPINE and SONORITY in every orchestra he leads. The man was absolutely AMAZING and I think he left us much too soon.
I love to listen to his interpretations of Brahms and other pieces in the German composer repertoire but it was his version of Sibelius Symphony Number 2 that was SUBLIME! It was PERFECT and only John Barbirolli comes close as a conductor. Von Karajan, to me, was the greatest conductor!

The only reason the governments of the world haven't attempted to tax these beloved pieces is because they don't have the technology, right now, but not to worry they're thinking about it even as we're listening. A prude is described as "A person who worries that someone, somewhere, is enjoying themselves, and it bothers them". Prudes gravitate towards power trips which are often found in government jobs. Watch out folks they're coming.

If you're ever in a big hotel lobby, and they start playing "The Blue Danube Waltz," get the hell out. Don't think. Run. In a big hotel, the waltz means they need to evacuate the building.
