You have to be near the Earth's surface, have the Day/Night/Sun mode turned on, and looking up to see the sun (and on the daytime side of the Earth). Also, if you have an old graphics card/older system, then you may not be able to see the sun features at all. "Weather->Clouds" should work on any system though.

i've seen the google earth car with a spheric camera in france a few weeks ago so i presume europe is gonna have street view mode soon if not already!

If they update it every few hours, it would mean that they have a gazillion cameras in the US taking pictures each and every few hours. The cost would be a gazillion too.
