The memory of hearing this song for the first time will stay with me forever. I was pulling into the parking lot of my office when I first heard this. The names of those in the Gulf War were being recited while this song was playing. It was so heart-breaking. I'll never, ever forget this song and those moments.

i think you've got the message wrong, this song is saying that the people going to war should not be called heroes n that the mothers are saying that they died heroes which will brainwash the next generation into thinking that its ok to die for war, george micheal is putting across the message that dying in war is pointless n for people not to brainwash the children into thinking that it is ok to die for their country
