Some clips from Daniel Day Lewis's breakthrough roles as street punk Johnny in Stephen Frears' "My Beautiful Laundrette" and upper-class dandy Cecil in Merchant-Ivory's "A Room With a View" (both 1986).
The films opened on the same day in the US, prompting critic Roger Ebert to say of the young Day Lewis: "Seeing these two performances side by side is an affirmation of the miracle of acting: That one man could play these two opposites is astonishing." He's been astonishing us ever since.

If not the best, yeah. When these two films came out back to back in Spring '86 I was struck by his versatility. Then what he did with "My Left Foot" was nothing short of amazing. What a rich and varied career.

Well, from Daniel's generation, there's also: Tom Hanks, Russel Crowe, Sean Penn and Denzel Washington, among others. But I have to say, that Daniel is the front-man:) Greatest actor to ever walk the earth, though I think it's silly to compare them.
