Often confused as an anthem for fighting because of the driving tune. It actually looks at the various points of view of the soldier, and the ones making him go. "...this time will be forever..." is more cynical than a battle cry. No doubt one of the best songs of all time!

look at tony havin' a BALL rockin' out on that bass. You can tell he just LOVES playin. So did all the guys. They're soo good at their profession, every one of them. You really can't say one is better than the other, like you can soo many other bands. BC would truly be screwed if any one man left the band early. Good question and one I've tried to figure out too. This is hard to explain in an email comment. Plus because of the character count, I have to post two comments.
It appears and it sounds like the guitars are run through a harmonzier(s) and delay for the sustain & doubling (root+5th, octave or other interval{s}). That doesn't preclude other effects like distortion, chorus and tremelo ect in the signal chain.

Ebows are really hard to use and control live. And Ebows sound like, well frankly Ebows. And you have to compose around them because they are tricky to work. Think of the guitar figure in Bowie's "Heroes"- Simple, long, slow sustain.

BC did use Ebows fairly liberally in the studio, more for atmospheric "padding/texture" though some songs do "feature" the Ebow as a main part of the sound.
