A reflection of a community does not have to glamorize the negative. I think hip hop started as a mirror of the community and what was going on. It isnt a mirror anymore, it is more of reproduced and romanticized marketable lifestyle. I noticed that a lot of the panel is trying to justify their position by claiming it happens everywhere. Hip hop has the power to make change, but the artists, labels and radio stations are not using their power for a positive change.

Melyssa Ford is right, music tells a story. What story is hip hop telling today? Is it telling a positive story? Is it telling the story of what 'is' going on? Or does it tell a 'generic' formulated story that sells? Sex does sell, but the difference between rap and other genres is that in rap the music degrades rather than lifts up the women. It rarely shows strong women, unless they are the rapper themself.

This whole series was a waste of energy. They said nothing, they skipped over the root problem. The truth of the matter is that the message and images have played there role in the continue destruction of the hood and disresepct of blackwomen, and blackmen.
