SRV was THE opener for most of the best concerts in Austin TX back around 1983. He was better than a lot of the acts he opened for. I saw him many times as an opener and I knew he would explode onto the scene after Bowie's 'Let's Dance'. The morning that the news of his death came out all I heard was one of the big names at the Cray, Clapton, Vaughan concert was dead. I turned off the tube- I didn't want to hear what I already could feel.

I got into an argument with a Cleveland OH buddy when I said losing Clapton would have been less devastating- I said SRV had so much left to give and Clapton was pretty much through. Time has proven half of my assertion correct; Clapton hasn't done jack shit since then. What could Stevie have done?

I agree! Stevie was 35 years old when he was sadyl killed, was 7 years in the bussines as a recording artist, he was on the road for almost 10 years or so, and he could have been in the music at least 20 - 25 years more!
SRV had so many more songs, albums, tourings, guest appereances, shows and everything to pull out and show, and unfortunately he died at the top of his career and game!
