My fianc ée says that under no circumstances am I permitted to go to some peculiar little island where people don't even speak proper English (and some speak Welsh) to consume jam made of Anguilliformes. The rest sounds fine though.

I don't think jellied eels are a type of preserve, but rather they are eels that have been pickled in jelly to keep them fresh. However, I'm glad you've been forbidden from eating them as I've never tried them myself and have no intention of doing so.
Peculiar little island? What snobbery, lol! I've been to the U.S., it was quite nice but the breakfast they served us was atrocious. However, I blame that on the hotel rather than the country itself.

What, no eel goo on toast? Huh. I'm actually are quite fond of the peculiar little island. I liked the street sign in Wales that helpfully admonished, "Dwim o gwbl at any time." (If I'm remembering correctly.) Mmm. I've read the jellied eel wiki, and I had to mix myself a stiff drink to get the idea out of my head.

Naw, I loved it there. My godmother actually lived there for an extended period, in Texas. She had a fridge that dispensed ice cubes and a walk-in wardrobe. It was great.
Another time, I was in N.Y. and I threw ice cubes down my friend's bra.
