I really like Crawford's voice (and the song, darnit, AWL is awesome). Butler definately has a weaker voice, but I like how it portrays Erik.

I agree....Butler has a waaaaay weaker voice and definetly doesn't have the power or feeling that or passion that Michael puts forth. That is why Michael is the best that has ever portrayed the Phantom and received so much critical aclaim and is so well loved by the fans 21 years later "gianachaos" and "Zaywex". Just an opinion though so everythings cool! Wish you guys could have seen Michael. You would have been so fired up over his portrayal! God Bless!

Although I do like the overall tone of the OLC 2-disc version. It was a little deeper. I think the two combined would be perfect!

I love this song and Crawford's voice is always the one I've preferred for the Phantom. I don't know, maybe it's because his was the first version I ever heard. And I agree, Sarah Brightman looks very creepy... but that's nothing new. ^_^

Oh, this version of the song is SO much better! The lyrics have so much more passion, leave more mystery, and Michael's voice is a lot stronger in this recording than the OBC. It's all about opinions, of course, and Crawford always has been my favourite Phantom, but I've just come to this video from witnessing Rhydian's rendition of this amazing song at ALWs 60th Birthday Party in Hyde Park on here (v=wyRUwM-mReg) and I have to say I believe a new superstar is born.
It's probably a bit of a shame Cowell has him under contract (though I don't suspect Rhydian's bank manager will necessarily share my view!).
