Disturbing new evidence suggests the CIA fed faulty intelligence to handpicked journalists to win support for the war against Iraq.
The defection of Iraqi engineer Adnan al Haideri in 2001 was a massive coup for the White House. "He was probably the single most significant defector who came out of Iraq," states an INC spokesman. Al Haideri claimed to have been hired by Saddam Hussein to build facilities for testing WMD. His st
ory was widely circulated and used to justify the war. Unfortunately, it now appears that his remarkable testimony was a lie. Not one of the hundreds of bunkers detailed by him has been found. "Al Haideri's evidence is a perfect example of the kind of garbage that was disseminated by Ahmed Chalabi,"
states former weapons inspector Scott Ritter. New information has also emerged about the way Al Haideri's story was leaked to the media. "They misled us," states Ritter "Thousands of innocent Iraqis perished in a war that didn't need to be fought."

This wasn't just the CIA then, it was also pushed by Cheney. Chalabi has been put in the office of the oil ministry of iraq and kicked out numerous times in a battle between the NeoCons and the State Dept here in the US.

It all began with the silent coup of 2000. The elected president was ousted and W, dumb and easy to control, was put in power. They put Cheney there to make sure W doesn't screw it up. By your argument, and considering President Bush's approval ratings, his stance on capital punishment, the divide between rich and poor in the U.S., and the past and present belligerence of the U.S., then our own President should be removed from power and OUR country should be attacked by some foreign country to bring us TRUE freedom and democracy. I was just pointing out that the American people don't want Bush as president, he runs the U.S. government much like a dictator, he endorses capital punishment and sent soldiers to war, presumably knowing some would die, the U.S. has a terrible record of attacking it's own neighbors in Central and South America through proxy, and the divide between rich and poor in the U.S. is one of the worst in the developed world. If all those are justifications for going to war in Iraq, why not the U.S.?

Well a divide is good, so is capital punishment, those aren't the problems. I will agree that the Right went to war for the wrong reasons and stay for the wrong reasons, but the Left wants to leave for the wrong reasons. The answer I think is in a new tactic, it woudl involve giving a shit about Iraq but we could help the place, we kind of owe it to them. And the NeoCons will use that as an excuse to keep profiting on the war. You see everybody is wrong, only I am right.

Yes, the Iraq war was started for selfish, stupid reasons. I think if people "gave a shit" about Iraq they would demand a gradual troop withdrawal and increased real diplomacy. As it is, the U.S. only seems to care about securing oil and making sure the new government is U.S. friendly, the rest
of Iraq be damned. They want us out.
