An animation film, made without the use of a camera, in which "boogie" played by Albert Ammons and "doodle" drawn by Norman McLaren combine to make a rhythmic, brightly colored film experiment. The main title is in eight languages.

MCLAREN HAD REALLY NOTHING TO DO TO SPEND YEARS TO DRAW ON THESE 35MM FILMS! AND HE WAS PAID!!!

the only thing that makes this "special" is that it was done on 35mm film, but that's not enough to make it interesting. the repetative movements and jarring flashes get real boring rel quick.

The film is 3 minutes and 18 seconds long. That's 198 seconds. Film projections play back at 24 frames per second. That means he animated about 4,752 individual frames, each one in synch with the music.

Mclaren was a pioneer and this is a groundbreaking work of art. Those who find it boring should watch it again as a love story, comparable to 'When Harry Met Sally'. This is one of many ways to watch it.

You are lucky the man did devote himself to his work, without this video, none of your favourite films like toy story or micky mouse would exist. Let alone video games. This is the birth of animation. Respect it. Even if you don't understand.

Actually it is not even decades close to "the birth of animation" but you are correct along with other commentors who note that essentially eggmanRobtonik is ignorant of the pioneering artistry of a truly great Canadian.

So many people complaining about this animation, and not in very good ways either. The most I hear is "DIS IZ DER BORENG!" which is a terrible way of expressing your dislike for something. Personally, I think this is pretty amazing and entertained me the whole way through. But if you have a reason why you think this isn't good then by all means, express it in a way that sounds more intelligent than a third grader. Otherwise you'll just look like an idiot.

i saw norman mcclaren at ica the mall. also i got cd of boogie woogoe music lately..so thats where i head that tune before.he used to draw straight onto the film. he also 'composed' music by drawing the sound srip onto film
