Well, your preference is certainly valid - they are two different animals though. The whole point is that this instrument is a totally passive, traditional P bass with a B string. The Am Deluxe is more of a hybrid of traditional and modern ideas. Both great basses, just different.

Ed, does this bass's neck have any dead spots that are so common on this style bass?

the one thing i hate about all fends is the electronics, they only have 2, or 3 at the most, knobs. that doesn't do it for me. ima wait till i have more money to custom make one with more tone options. ps. only exception is jaguar bass, which sucks while plaing in sitting down position
The dead spot is ...( 2 months ago by BassGuitarMag)
The dead spot is pretty minimal, the graphite "posi-flex" rods in the neck keep it very manageable. Personally, I don't mind the dead spot. I've played Fenders for 30 years, and that's just part of the deal. I don't let the slight loss of sustain on a couple of notes stop me from playing these amazing instruments. Learn to love the dea spot!

Well, the whole point of a P bass is that it is simple. I have many basses with active eq, two pickups, lots of options... they're great too. But when I want pure, fat tone with no BS, I grab a P Bass. You're entitled to your opinion, just keep in mind that there is a purpose for every instrument.

I agree with ed. I like the plethora of knbos on my basses too, but often times when I'm too lazy to EQ it right, I'll just grab a P and just plug in and play and get that awesome tone. simplicity is sometimes best

Well, I tried some, but I'm not a big fan of flatwound B strings. It's just a matter of personal taste - I certainly do love a P bass with flats, but the B string gets a little too dark an indisctinct for me. YMMV

I am so glad Fender went with 4+1 tuner arrangement on these. The stright 5 always looked really cheap to me. Damn. Now I will have to pick one of these up. Maybe even the one there AT bass emporium. Thanks again Ed.

I got the impression from alot of people (not you) that getting a near identical p-bass tone out of the G&L was entirely possible.. so while I have been drooling over the precision V, I didn't want to drop the cash if I could get all that and more out of the G&L.. though I am not a big fan of most active pickups (on this particular day anyway :) )
Array( 1 month ago by BassGuitarMag)
Well, the G&L does get a nice P-like tone - front pickup, passive, in series, keep the bass wide open and the treble backed down about to 6. But... it's not the same as a P bass. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have an L2500 too! It certainly offers a lot of great options. The P5 has to be appreciated on it's own terms - it's a P bass. It does what it does, it's not anything more than that, and it's perfect that way. Just MHO

I got tired of driving back to the guitar shop to play these guys trying to make a decision.. so finally I ordered both! Actually, I got the 4 string Am Std Precision and the Tribute L-2500.. Hopefully I love them because they are going to be hurting the wallet for quite a while :)
Anyway, thanks for the sweet vids and the help!

After see this video, I went to the nearest musical instruments shop in verona, italy, in order to try this new fender product.
I have to say I was impressed about the tone of
this bass. So finally I bought one (olimpic white model). Wonderful!! I love the tone of
this passive bass.

Thanks, that's just a little thingy I came up with. Not really a fully baked tune or anything. The instruments often suggest little melodies, sometimes I hear them....
Anyway, thanks for the sweet vids and the help!
