Thats your opinion, great. But urban they weren't unknown at all, theyd already had two albums and seven singles. Toured with huge bands and fronted large shows. Millions were invested in them to make them marketable so people like yourself would think urban hymns is great. Well produced, maybe, but souless garbage. No wonder Nick walked out. Ashcroft is an embarrassment now, and soon to do a Phil collins and totally implode. Nick should release something...

Urban Hymns maybe popular, but its dross. In exactly the same way Phil collins, Dire Straits, Wham were popular but now make us cringe. UH is pop music at its worst because it has no soul. Its Richards album. On the first two it Richard and Nick united with the wall of Bass and Drums. UH is shite and will be forgotten.

I understand what you're saying Mike, but how can you deny a song like "Bittersweet Symphony"?? A track that defined an era. I was one of the unfortunates who hadn't heard of The Verve until Urban Hymns. I will agree that their stuff before UH was better, but You can't hate an album just because its more marketable. Those were some decent songs on that album. You may call it Richard album, but None of his solo stuff comes close to UH.

The Verve return, the greatest news I have heard for a long time in what is currently a dull era in music, you only have to look at the latest Glasto line up to confirm that, thank god it rained (Except Iggy & the Stooges, What a performance!). Anyway to settle the score Urban Hymns or previous material, Smoke some blow, lay back and play Gravity Grave Glasto 93 Live, you'll find it on 'No Come Down' (B Sides) that should settle it!!!!
