Sam Taylor was your grandfather??? Wow, that is truly amazing and wonderful!!! What a major talent he was and how proud you must be :) Yes we do owe so much to them and yes, Harold Lloyd was great :) Your grandfather would be so happy to know that kids as young as 10 are watching these here and loving them. So nice to meet you! Thanks for sharing, jane :)
Just saw this movie ...( 4 months ago by rustydog1236)
Just saw this movie yesterday in Royce hall at UCLA on the big screen with live organ. It's amazing how good this: ten times better than the little youtube screen. Deafening roars of laughter from the audience. I was amazed how the audience responded to this comedic masterpiece. The program said the copy was taken from Harold LLoyds own personal copy. If you get a chance see it live in a theater.

Oh, lucky you!!! It's great to hear how the audience responded :) Thanks so much for sharing that!!! I am so glad that Harold Lloyd is still getting the big laughs and the acclaim he deserves. How wonderful to get to see the print from his own personal archives! Oh in this town they never show anything interesting. Thanks so much for this wonderful comment, jane :)

The silent trio were amazing! Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin and Harold Lloyd made me laugh alot when I watched Paul Murtons Silent Clown's. I've only got Buster Keaton DVD's at the moment, but I want to get some Harold Lloyd DVD's. R.I.P Harold Lloyd, thanks for uploading.

I wonder who they'd cast? I'd hate for it to be awful. It would be wonderful to have a wonderfully well done film about him, I agree!

Fantastic stuff, but Harold did not, contrary to popular belief, perform his own stunts. The guy responsible for this movie was a stuntman called Harvey Parry.

Harold Lloyd did do most of his own stunts so you are giving the wrong impression. In the long -shot building scalings in this film and in Feet First, stunt doubles Bill Strothers and Harvey Parry were used.
Lloyd himself performed the medium-shots and close-ups (like the clock sequence). He had to wear wire walker shoes to stay in-between the bricks and hung from the clock hands for long periods of time between breaks.
Don't say he didn't perform his own stunts. He used doubles occasionally.

You are right, but I suppose it depends on how you define stunts: the shots you refer to involved a specially constructed platform approximately 10 feet below the clock on which he could fall - hardly death defying! Film studios have always been extremely reluctant to allow their stars to risk life and limb due to high insurance premiums and yet did not want to undermine the reputation of their stars. HP was later acknowledged as a stunt double- the long shots where identification was difficult
Since Harold did ...( 3 months ago by ziegfeldgrrl)
Since Harold did all his own stunts except for these long shots, I think that qualifies him for being a pretty amazing stunt guy. And you don't lose fingers in a stunt by letting others do all the tough stuff for you. These close up shots were difficult, like I said. If you insist that only the long shots were then so be it for you. You seem to have your mind made up.
My mind is made up ...( 3 months ago by two1065)
My mind is made up on what the truth of the matter is. At least you concede that Parry was involved. Your earlier comment on "adoring" Harold is fine by me but it is a shame that the little guy(s) is/are (sometimes conveniently)forgottenand they are not "adored" for their part in cinematic history. Let's also not forget the fingers lost incident was for an advertising stunt not in the actual filming of the real movie.

Yes, I agree that it's a shame that the others involved are forgotten, just as so many of the stars of the era are forgotten. I adore Harold for many reasons, not just his stunt work. His wit, his acting abilities, his comedic timing, his film presence, his ability to make me laugh. The whole is more than the sum of it's parts in his case. So we agree on one thing :)

Jane, when I was small, nothing could beat the excitement of my Dad getting out the screen, me sitting in the dark and hearing the rickety-tick-tick of the projector as the likes of Harold, Buster et al sprung to life! We had no musical soundtrack so my Dad invented sound effects as we went along. Happy Days!
