Just in case there ...( 2 weeks ago by spudmustang)
Just in case there is any doubt or confusion, the definition of socialism is:
"Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy."
Compared to Cuba or China, the US is not a socialist nation, but it has been going in that direction for quite some time. And nationalizing banks and lending institutions is one more step in that direction.

Unfortunately, in reality it never is democratic. And even in theory, it does not represent the will of the people, only the majority. The fact that it steals property from people before it even starts to rule demonstrates that it does not hear the voice of every citizen. If it can justify stealing property in the beginning, it can certainly justify stealing power and making its own rules "for the good of the people" later. Any system based on theft is doomed to the consequences of that action.

The definition is not totaslly true & the way you see the USA & China does not follow the trues.
Cuba is close to Socialism, but even this state is not totally socialistic.
Democracy is the ...( 2 weeks ago by CnCKane)
Democracy is the will of the major group of the people.
Socialists don't "steal" anything..
They just want the key productions, like water, power, post & telecomunication systems and this stuff in thed hand of the people.
So if the majority ...( 2 weeks ago by spudmustang)
So if the majority of people in your town wanted to have sex with your wife, even though you didn't approve and neither did she, would it not be rape or adultery? Taking someone's stuff without permission is theft, regardless of whether or not the majority approves of it.
And if I work hard to build up a business, it's wrong for someone to take it away just because they think that it's in the interest of the people. It's stealing, no matter how much you try to justify it.
Why is it that ...( 2 weeks ago by spudmustang)
Why is it that socialists continually claim that Cuby, China, and Russia are/were not socialist systems? They were founded and run on socialist principles. Just because they ended up as dictatorships or committed horrible atrocities doesn't mean that they weren't socialist countries. If anything, they are the perfect examples of what inevitably happens under a socialist system. Once you give all your power and freedoms to the government, don't expect the government to care what you think.

Uhmmm, just in case you didn't guess, "Cuby" is a typo. I meant to say "Cuba"... However, now that I think about it, Cuby is much better name. "Hi. I'm Cuby, you're cute and friendly communist neighbor. I like butterflies and rainbows." See? It's much less threatening. I wouldn't be nearly as terrified about having dozens of nuclear warheads pointed towards my city if they were located in a country called Cuby. We should phone Fidel and propose a name change. "End the mean blockade on Cuby NOW!"

Hey communists and socialists, instead of trying to turn the US into a socialist country why don't you go to Sweden or Cuba and leave us be? Or even Iraq. Whatever you think about the war in Iraq, they have representative government so if they like they can vote in socialists.

The Problem is that if you don't follow the communist ideals, you can't call yourself a communist.
Otherwise Jesus would also reponsible for the crimes of the crusaders

Aggressive ...( 1 week ago by spudmustang)
Aggressive government action is a hallmark of communism, not capitalism. The very nature of communism is aggressive, as the government takes personal property and freedoms away without personal consent. Under capitalism, the government does not involve itself with the market at all. It respects the property and rights of the individual. If it is truly capitalistic, a government cannot be aggressive because it respects the rights of individuals.

Freedom. Free world! When you have no money, you have no freedom. You can't do anything but rot and become bitter and twisted. You look for any ray of hope. Communism is that ray of hope. It's caused by a world were extreme capitalism rules. It's not good. We need to find another way. How can we watch when more than half of the worlds population starves. Our actions kill a life. Maybe we're doomed with our parasitic captalist ideology. Bloodsucking others so we can live the good life.

Capitalism has it's flaws, but the principles that it is based upon ensure freedom of the individual. Communism is based upon stealing for the needs of the majority. It can't claim to work in the interests of the people when it is stealing (by force) from part of them to fill the perceived needs of the rest. Then you have a class of owners and a class of slaves.

I already live in Sweden, and let me tell you, we may run our country a hundred times better than the Americans do theirs, but we are still operating under a capitalist system. It's been forever since Socialdemokraterna were actually implementing anything resembling democratic socialism, and even so, we've NEVER been socialist.
One wonders what it would have been like today if we had successfully carried out that revolution back in 1917-18 ... but we had no "Swedish Bolsheviks", unfortunately.

Capitalism does not ...( 1 day ago by AlexanderOppenheimer)
Capitalism does not ensure freedom of the individual at all, rather, it ensures the liberty of the individual. The liberty of the individual however, is determined dirctly upon the value consensus of those in control of the means of production.
