There are problems with the currency system, but it is flexible in a way a gold standard simply isn't. I'm all for a bit of oversight at the fed in some aspects, but the gold standard is a proven dud. If you want gold, buy gold..or pan for it.

President is only one man. Sure, he may have an ability to have an impact on society and certain foreign policy measures, etc. But as soon as "personal responsibility" comes out of his mouth, a bunch of sniveling liberal democrats will start huffing and puffing. This is asking too much of them.
Ron Paul is about 70% good. Sadly, I disagree with him on the remaining 20% so much it outweighs this 70%. That's just my personal opinion, as yours is certainly different.

I'd put McCain at about 50% good with the remaining 50% not as bad as Ron Paul's 20%. Obama is about 10% good with the bad easily surpassing Ron Paul.
I'd vote for Paul in a flash over Obama, but I don't like either of their bizarre cult following.
If Paul's stance on a couple major issues was slightly different, I could support him. Iraq being one of them. I was there, so I may be biased anyway. Not starting new wars is OK, but American inaction could lead to nuclear wars in other lands.

The exact 20% that most Ron Paul supporters like the most. I used to call myself libertarian until these Ron Paul fanatics seemed to flood in and crying about anything outside of what Paul stands for is "stupid", etc. And I don't agree with his foreign policy views (even though our current foreign policy is bad), and I don't agree with his fiscal ideas (though there are problems with the current system), and certain views regarding free trade. I don't feel Ron Paul is the answer. That's it.

If Ron Paul were to compromise, which he'd HAVE to do if he wanted anything resembling his ideas passed... then we might actually have a great answer that does fix our problems. They'd take some of the underlying basis of what Paul believes, stay far from an "extreme" idea and actually help instead of just make things worse in a different way.
Knowing Paul's track record in the House is NOT encouraging, however. He would likely be the most ineffective leader in 100 years.

Bush, like him or not, have been very effective. Effective doesn't mean good, though. It means he is able to accomplish what he wants to by getting the right bills on his desk to sign. Ron Paul would at least make republicans & democrats work together to write a bill that could override a presidential veto.
I think Paul would make a great governor, however. Someone like him needs to get elected in a state somewhere. I'd vote for him in a flash on the state level and would consider him great.
