Monday 19 May 2008. Mike Figgis in conversation with Jason Solomons. Journalist and presenter Solomons interviews twice Oscar-nominated director, writer, composer and photographer Mike Figgis.
As a pioneer of experimental and digital filmmaking, Figgis is a firm believer that there is no reason to prevent anybody from making a film. His latest film, Love Live Long, screened at Cannes, was shot in a mere 6 days for a fraction of a usual feature film budget. The film embodies all the pri
nciples of low-budget film-making discussed by Figgis in his book - Digital Filmmaking. Figgis discussed the freedom to film that today's technology offers and the virtues of filming without the army of a crew associated with a big Hollywood production, as well as his own cinematic career.
I have
Figgis' "Digital Filmmaking" book at home, and I was thrilled to be there for this conversation.
My own filmmaking experience was closely inspired by Figgis on one occasion: I studied his film Leaving Las Vegas in great detail, and later asked my composer to create music similar to the beautiful s
core he did in that film.
This talk blew me away - he's a brilliant man.
