Its the western culture thats creating agressive/unstable japanese. ALthough i know that most japanese are very, very passive and affraid to show their emotions due to cultural teachings. Toughing up kids is not destructive, its beneficial, i know it from experience. ALthough toughing up in a western/materialist society could also be the cause. Japanese are more westernized than west itself.

Checkingokop, Have you ever been to Japan? I lived there for 8 years during the 80's and 90's and have visited since then. I found Japanese people to be just as expressive in their emotions as Americans. I never had to wonder what people were thinking. Perhaps you have been there and just couldn't relate well with the people?
